It was a great weekend at the camp. We met up with Blackbeard and Uncle Handy at the Jamaica Beach Valero before heading to the Rusty Hook to deliver the new flag for them. Then we hit the water. Things worked out so that both Shoalwater's hit the water at the same time. As I was heading to park the truck, I was surprised to see Ynggun and his dad Mark preparing to launch their boat. They had decided to surprise us and the timing was just right. Blackbeard and Uncle Handy even brought out a little yak for us to keep at the camp. Not bad for a starting vessel to the rebuilt Confederate Navy. I even took a little cruise in it to check it out. It's safe to say I probably well exceed the weight limit, but it kept me afloat LOL! Thanks y'all!
Pretty soon we were at the camp and unloaded just in time for my buddy Vic and his friend Dean to show up at the ramp. Pretty soon we were all out there. Some of the guys went fishin' while some of us started working with Vic to get the front porch roof level and braced. We ran out of hardware, but were able to get most of it done and call Coe to pick up some lag screws on his way down. With some folks ready for a late lunch, Blackbeard cleaned a trout and a red and I threw them on the grill halfshell style. It was a good appetizer for the BLT's that came after. 007 had brought some homegrown tomatoes and I cooked up a pound of bacon. I even toasted some bread on the grill, and it was great.
Everyone eventually took off after some good times, but at least I got a few pics. 007 and I took off on a grand adventure making our first run ever through Mud Cut. There was quite the pucker factor as Mike was pushing the Shoalwater through less than 6 inches of water at some points. We fished a little, but it was mostly about the adventure. With the front looming and looking ominous, I pressed to return to the camp and secure everything out of the rain. Against my wishes, Captain Adventure made the mad run via Mud Cut once again.
Vic returned later and we had a great dinner. Vic peeled the scrimps for a sauce, plus there were some huge ones in there that begged to be grilled whole, and 007 grilled up a few steaks he had brought. Surf and turf. Talk about GOOD! The front changed the wind, but luckily there was no rain. So the lights went on and we chilled for a bit to let them go to work. Pretty soon Vic was on the fish, and after I spent a while on the phone with my dad, I joined him. Mike sacked out. He always wants the lights on, but he never fishes them?
Live scrimps were the ticket and we murdered them until we were tired of fishing. Then we sat on the edge of the dock like little kids with our feet dangling off and just hung out for a while telling stories. We sacked out around 2:30 or 3 and I slept that hyper sleep that can only be found at the camp. I dreamt of the days at the old camp on Bayou Cook.
I woke up around 8am and was surprised to find Mike and Vic still at the camp. The wind was up and the day was kind of ugly. The fishing didn't look good, but the crabbing was excellent. Vic pulled out a good haul of keeper crabs that he'd take home with him. I slaved over the stove for an hour and a half and brought my big breakfast to fruition just in time for Mike to pick up Glen at the dock. Vic left early due to his desire to watch the basketball abortion on TV.
Mike got to finishing up on the porch so we could get it all ready for Lurefisher to get the roof done. I continued my debris cleanup and helped Glen out with a few projects, including setting the final piling needed to finish the back porch. We piled up all the wood too. The place is really coming along. Storms threatened a couple of times but we never got any rain.
I've got my high school reunion this coming weekend in New Orleans, so I'll have to leave the camp to everyone else. We'll probably have one of the partners out there though, so if you're out and about, stop on by. I'll be back out weekend after next. To those that helped, thank y'all so much. Everyone is putting their bit of work in and it's piling up into a lot of big accomplishments.Last edited by coachlaw; May 18, 2009, 09:30 PM.From 1970-1997, true heaven on Earth existed on the banks of Bayou Cook. Wow the place is really starting to look like a Naval Base, we need to get our shore batteries mount and ready.
Really it does look like I missed out on a great time. The wedding will be over soon and my honey do list will be cut down by miles. When that happens I'm planning on some full weekends of fun, fishhin, drinkin, liein, oh and of course workin.Pro Staff - Bounty Hunter Turbo Buzz, Creme Lures, New Pro Products, & K9 Fishing Fluorocarbon

Id be more than happy to take ya and would want ya to stay in the boat, its alot easier with two guys...one man drives, the other pokes fish.
The problem with me is I don't realy like to commit. All kinds of varibles, mostly due to conditions. Also, police enforcement should be heavy this weekend looking for drunks. If I was to go I would want to pull up at Sandys dock around 4a and sleep it off.
As the summer progresses I will definetly be out more and more to the point I am a sure thing almost every other weekend and lots of times in the middle of the week as I am a shift worker.
Stay tuned.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FBLbrJxGtro

As long as the weather holds for this weekend, I have a gigging partner that is flying in from Tampa to help me poke a limit and if so I want to make a late night appearence to share a beer.
My friend Sean reports that all the Tampa Flounder he has seen have been short, narrow and not thick compared to our Galveston flattys. He also mentioned not seeing any beds over 16". They're average fish is 12".http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FBLbrJxGtro
