  • How to fish Corkys in the winter?

I've haven't done much winter time fishing. I know the Corky is a great lure for this time of year, or so I've heard. Since you have to fish so much slower in the winter, how do you fish the corky lure? Long slow pulls and let it sink? Or twitch it along? Or go with a floating corky? Etc?

Also, which one of the corky lures works best this time of year and what color?

    Thanks for the tips.

I am working on setting up a date with some of our guides here in order to gather video. The purpose is to show the average angler how to work different baits.

Look for Aqua Pimp, Dpop, Shallowist & Capt. Glenn Stevens. YouTube videos should be out in another month.

Until then.... I'll let the rest of the guys chime in

I use all colors depending on weather conditions. I only use corky lures this time of year with a few exceptions. The truth to the lure is the slower the better. I usually have them hit when the lure is on the fall (usually while trying to take a sip of my beer).

I typically will let it sink for a few seconds when it hits. Do three or four turns and a pop it once or twice and let it fall for a few seconds and repeat. This works for me, but somedays I catch them closer to the surface. You will be able to tell when you are working it too fast, as it will be hoping in and out of the water, but soetimes that works to.

Just give 'em a shot and once you hook a fat ol' trout one of them you will be hooked.

      Take care,

Gulfcoast has it. I do the twitch, twitch, pause and let it sink. That's when they tend to strike. It's a deadly lure.

Can't wait for the videos to come out. It sounds like the twitch twitch retrieve should get me some fish this weekend. I wasn't sure if a long slow pull and then let it sink would be better than the twitches. I'm thinking about going to GISP or the lighted pilings by the airport this weekend to try them out some. Any thoughts?

don't get caught up in the "if you think you are fishing it slow, slow down even more" frame of mind. I'm far to impatient to be fishing slow and I have done pretty good on fatboys. Its really just like any bait, try different style of retrieves till you get that bite. Once you find out what they want, do it again.
