You can go get a deferral for 1 year only 1 time during your life after that year you must take hunter education. You fall under the new rules as do I. Go to academy assuming you've never deferred before and get it. Costs $10 I think. You'll be good all season! But you must take hunters education before next season. Your hunters ed. Card should be carried on you like your drivers license. I'd suggest getting it laminated like I did.

I put it off as long as I could. I actually enjoyed it . The only down side was the class was put on at an elementary school and we had nothing to sit in for all those hours except little kid chairs tucked under little kid tables.

Like the CHL it's not a bad class to take anyway. Seems like a bunch of bureaucracy though ... all hunters born after 1971 and all boaters born after 1993 have to take the test. Sometimes it pays to be an old fart.

I think it should be required for anyone regardless of age that wants to hunt. I've seen more & more horror stories of adults shooting their children, grandfathers taking their grandson's life by an accidental discharge etc.

It is a simple course if you have been in the outdoors. Like they stated you have a 1 year bye that you can use once. I took mine in 1994. Good luck and I am sure you will do fine.

I did the online course and one day field class. It was a breeze. The field day course fills up quickly but most instructors are pretty lenient.

my son was finally old enough to take the course before the start of this hunting season. I made him take the on line course then the 4 hour field class and done. No one was going to hunt with a muzzle loader so he skipped over that part and gave the answers during the test for that part. It was a hell of a lot better than the 2 day course I took way back when.
