  • NEW GUY and a Timing Question

    This is Rock81, I'm a new Guy
I am a 77grad from La Marque and currently live in Sealy where I own my own engineering business. My dad, brother and I grew up wade fishing the surf and parts of the bay. Thanks to Shark Week I can't seem to talk my 14 yo son into standing on the 3rd sand bar with me in late June with a stringer of fish hanging off one cheek. I purchased a flat bottom aluminum boat 2 summers ago and am doing my best to help him learn to appreciate saltwater fishing.
We fish West bay as well as Palacios and East Matagorda.

I appreciate the discussions and look forward to reading more of the brilliant offerings.

QUESTION: Planning to Fish Sometime between 6pm Tue Night and Noon Wed. West of Causeway. Probably a no brainer but what 2 hour period would you say you MUST be on the water?

    Here are the factors:
Tides: Tues Nite High 10:04 PM +1.6, Wed Afternoon Low 1:46PM -0.1
    Moon: Rise9:36PM Set 11:23
    Sun: 6:44 am
    Rain:70% thru 6pm, SW, W, NW 7mph winds 6pm thru Wed

    Thanks Steve

Welcome aboard Steve - and your son is smart not to run a stringer on the 3th sandbar where the bull shark roam, that's just ain't right! Kinda kidding but the only death we've had in far South Texas was a guy doing exactly that. If I walk off the beach I'll walk every keeper all the way into shore.

I second the idea to try dawn patrol because there's a major feed then, regardless of the tide. Big bays like the West End have such a lag time in the tides and current velocity as compared to the main channel I have no idea.

The passing storm might do something either good or bad, and you got a cool front coming down after a Pacific rain. Watch your timing on that and good luck.
