OK folks it is that time once again to head south to the deer lease. Yes I am lucky enough to be married to a wonderful wife that has put up with me for 20 plus years. Oh and she is still smokin hot too!!
I'll be heading out after lunch tomorrow. I cant wait to turn off of I-35 and hit that red dirt road. I'll stop by the check station and sign in. Look forward to seeing some of the young ranch hands that work there.I wonder if that old dog is still there. I have watched that skinny pup turn fat and grey over the years.I am sure i'll see the ranch manager and hear how his grandbabies are doing. I'll get sign in and shoot the chit. After that thats when the fun start.
Luckily the ranch manager lets me take the short cut with less gates. One advantage of him knowing I am trusted source of deer intelligence.I cant wait to open that first gate, crack an ice cold beer, turn on some old *** country music(680am) and roll down those 12 miles across the Callaghan Ranch.Ive found it is usually a three beer trip with one piss stop.
I'll be the only man in camp tomorrow night. I plan on pulling up unloading one small bag of clothes, throw some mesquite on the grill, cook a small steak and getting f'ing drunk.
I'll be hunting for arrowheads between hunts. I hope to find a few nice points. Gonna hit the honey hole and see what has washed up been unearthed by rain.Never know what you will find.I usually have a goal of one arrowhead a day.
There is something about seeing that red dirt road and opening that first gate that just makes time fade away. Hunting South Texas gets in your blood. I just cant get it out of me. I hope I always have a place to hunt down there. Anyway thats all I got for now.
