  • Lonestar Ring & Pinion

Can't say enough about Eric over at Lonestar Ring & Pinion. (Katy area)

I had my Tahoe towed over there today from the Chevy Dealership. If you didn't hear, on Friday my limited slip / locker blew up and brought my truck to an instant stop. I had it towed to the Chevy Dealer and over the weekend learned of Lonestar.

Eric has already inspected the damage, is now ordering the parts which will be in Thursday. He said he should have me back up & running by Friday!

    NOW THAT'S SERVICE!!!

That's an unusual failure. How many miles was on it?

I know it happens but I wouldn't think it to be common.
Did you know Tundras have the stoutest gear in it's class then again Tundras are in class of there own rated between a 1/2 and 3/4 ton truck like Chevys old heavy halfs.

          Diff. Lockup????

Boss, the differential should last way over this mileage. Hope the housing is not scared from this issue. All the bearings will need to be replaced from the metal. The differential had to take a lot of abuse to lock up. More likely pinion gear snapped. Look for any TSB on GM website for any recall on this problem. They like to hide a lot of problems. Like to here how this turned out.

LOCKER locked up... I do not have an open ring & pinion like most trucks... I have a GovLoc locker in there... Basically this is what happened...

I think the message is "get it out of there." Sucks that something we take for granted isn't. Sorry you have had this happen, but I'm glad it didn't happen when you were on the highway or towing....
