my tilt/trim switch went out on my boat so i dropped it off at ron hoover in lamarque. they called a few days later and it was fixed, so i swung by to pick up the boat. they had run a computer printout on it because it had a high pitched noise and i wanted to make sure it wasn't anything to worry about. i was talking to frank the tech and asked him how many hours were on the engine. the tach gauge showed about 250 but i wasn't sure how accurate those were. he looked at the report and told me it had 302 hours. he said he could do the 300 hour service the following am, so i left it with them. i assumed i was getting the 300 recommended service that's in the suzuki manual.
when i stopped by the following day, the bill was 600 dollars. i called busha in bay city, my regular mechanic and asked what he charges and what's included in a 300 hour service. 200 dollars, change lower unit oil and engine oil per owner's manual. we started going over what ron hoover recommends and it's a bit extensive. i was charged to grease trailer bearings, change water pump, 4 filters, inspect trailer lites, lower unit, etc. tons of stuff not recommended in manual. i went thru 2 managers and did get over 2 hours of labor credited. when the manager went over my computer printout, turns out the tech read the wrong line and it only had 262 hours, not the 302 as stated.
if you need service there, you may want to make sure you get everything quoted. they appear to do this service on all of their engines at 100 hour intervals. i'm sure the tech is on commission and was trying to run up the bill. the service writer stacey was really nice and they were very timely, but they put the screws to me.
