I sold one of them to buy this reel. I just spooled it up with some 50# power pro. It's in mint condition inside and out.
I work just enough to pay for my fishing habit.

I prefer baitcasters over spinning reels because I find grabbing the line and flipping the bail over every cast somewhat annoying compared to the simple push of a button.
I would buy one of the mid-range baitcasters first to see if you like it, like the Citica. It's a great reel for the price. If you fish with it for a while and decide you like it, then you can designate it as your "surf reel" and buy high quality. Something like the 50mg is amazingly light (although you kind of have to baby it in taking care of it). But anyways, don't go all out on your first reel if you may not like it.
And when you start learning how to use it, you're going to get pretty mad digging out backlashes but there is light at the end of the tunnel. Now that I use baitcasters, I can't stand spinning reels. Only use em for light tackle perch jerkin' haha. They do have a purpose, just not in my realm of saltwater fishing.
        Good luck

        GOD BLESS AND GIG'EM!

I hope I catch a 10 lb trout before I catch a flesh eating bacteria.

You can tell Xtreme ain't from East of the Sabine.

When I was growing up, we'd all laugh at the guys showing up at the boat launch with that out-dated upside down and sideways baitcaster garbage. Invariably they would be attached to a boat with little freeboard, an overly huge outboard, and of course the gaudy sparkly paint job. There was one old fellow at the launch, as far as I know he spent his retired years drinking beer and watching the boats get hoisted in and out of the water. Anyway, he'd have a field day with these types. "Hey! Hey! Does that sparkly paint help you catch more fish?" No matter how many times you heard it, the quizzical looks on the offender's faces made you laugh. We'd usually end up pulling those idjits off a mud flat or shell pile later in the day.

I fished from La. to Fla. growing up, and aside from these jokers, I never saw a baitcaster unless it was a tv bass fishing show.

Then I move here and there's some sort of elitist attitude about baitcasters. I was like, "Baitcasters? In salt water? What?" In my opinion, it's beyond ridiculous. The prices of a decent baitcaster that won't backlash all the time are through the roof. I've got a Citica and it's really nice, for a baitcaster. I got it for $60, which I thought was a ridiculous amount to pay for a non-Penn reel. I like it, but it's only for certain conditions.

The only time I've found them to be superior to spinning rigs is when drift fishing, but not casting into the wind. Beyond that, give me an egg beater every time. I'll outcast and out target most of the people I fish with. And I'll never, ever, ever miss a fish because I'm fooling with a backlash.

As an after-thought, one thing I absolutely hate about baitcasters if they make absolutely no noise when the drag is going out. You don't get the adrenoline pumping ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ! from a big fish.

What are y'all? A buncha Bassmasters?

Baitcasters are also good for wading because you can wade deeper and keep your reel dry with it on top. Wouldn't know though because I stay in the yak.

I think I'll have to coin a "pulling out a backlash" dance next time I'm at the club

Eggbeaters for me too. You can still feather your line to stop your lure precisely. Cast further, light lures, into the wind. What's that song... "anything you can do I can do better...."

Monte, I said "Most of the people I fish with". I don't even put myself in the same class of fisherman you are. I even thought about you specifically when I typed that.
