  • General Locations Wanted

Hey everyone. A family friend brought his boat down to the west bay area and is asking about some locations for this afternoon. I suggested SLP, but for a boat, that's all I know. All the other Any other general locations to get him started in the afternoon time? Thanks!

If he launches there, keep left all the way out of the marina area. Just take it slow and keep an eye out for shoals until you learn where they are. The old T-Pier in Cold Pass is always a good bet. I like to fish the pilings at the dropoff. The Titlum-Tatlum tourney is going on right now, so there will likely be a crowd in the bayou. Therefore I don't recommend trying to fish there on Sunday. Since he's new to the area, I don't recommend venturing to the flats behind Bird Island or going into Bastrop or Christmas yet. I'd be happy to show him around, but I won't be out there this weekend. - Sandy

        First off...what kind of boat?
        Second...pretty much what Sandy said!

Don't over look the SLP bridge either...deep water, structure, moving relatively clean green water can be a good combination. Free shrimp, mullet, or heaven forebid..croaker around those piles can be productive.

If it smells like fish....you know I've been there!

If you can catch an outgoing tide at SLP bridge you can catch fish.

Well after countless warnings of the shallow flats around the area, we got a call from him saying he got stuck! He was exploring the area and heading towards the bridge when he got into some mud. So if ya saw a Boston Whaler out there, it was probably him. He and a buddy pushed the boat out and headed back in.
