One of my all time favorite “Fishing with Dave” stories doesn’t really happen while fishing. This story really happened a couple of days after a fishing trip, but I’ll have to tell it anyway. You see most of the folks in these stories are co-workers, including Dave and his wife Yon. Yon is Korean and well she really liked to eat fish, any fish she could get her hands on matter of fact. The first time I fished with her was at the Lighted Pier at the end of the TC Dike. I had been catching a lot of good flounder off that pier at night and one of these evening Dave and Yon showed up. Actually they were there when I got there, and on my first trip out carrying my gear, I didn’t bring my cooler. Dave said not to worry, I could put my fish in his and didn’t need to go get mine. Well after a really normal evening of fishing with Dave, I get ready to leave. I had put four flounder in his cooler and was going to get them out. That is when Yon flat out told me in her broken English, that all the fish in that cooler were her fish. I thought she was kidding and started pulling one of the flounder out, and that’s when she waved a fillet knife in my face. Needless to say I backed off. I was not going to fight a mad little Korean lady with a big knife over a few fish. I digress from the real story I wanted to tell. By the way Dave got my flounder out of the cooler as Yon was ranting, yelling and waving that knife.

The real story happened two evening after a bunch of us guys from work and made a trip down to the GalvestonState Park and caught a bunch of Rainbow Trout out of the pond down there. They use to stock it in the winter years ago, but I don’t think they do anymore because the water turned too salty. Anyway between all of us we had caught about 30 Rainbows and ended up giving them all to Dave. He had pleaded with us that Yon had been on him for not coming home with any fish so we felt sorry for him as we all knew Yon from work.

Well two evening later, I was at work. I worked the second shift and so did Yon in those days. When it came time for lunch I went to the area with the Microwave to heat my food and when I got there I could hear it was already running. Well I bent over and took a look at what was being heated. To this day I wish I hadn’t done that as what I saw still gives me nightmares. On a plate rotating in the Microwave was a whole Rainbow Trout, head and all. It had been scaled and gutted but there it was with its mouth open and eyes bulging rotating around. Just as I was getting ready to just leave, I was no longer hungry, Yon came in. She saw that I had been looking at her rotating trout and said “Put fish in Microwave, cook till eyes pop, very tasty.” Needless to say even to this day I can’t eat Rainbow Trout.

I gotta tell y'all, and I think 007 will agree. Reading this on the net simply can't compare to sitting on the porch at the camp and hearing/seeing bountyhunter tell this story. His imitation of the spinning microwaved trout was the real creme de'la creme of the whole thing. LMAO!

These are actual events that happened, I might have stretched the truth a little here and there but for the most part the story is just the way I remember them happening......
