What do you guys think about this diesel generator for emergency power?

What other brand gas or diesel and what wattage for home essentials would you recommend?

Pretty much every gas station, of course in an emergency their pumps might not work, and yes I have natural gas.

Natural Gas would be the way to go Kenny (assuming you ALWAYS have a constant flow) did the Island ever lose gas pressure during Ike

You could go propane, let me know what watt you want & I will see what kind of deal I can get you on a generator.

Natty gas or propane are the way to go-once no electricity, no pumps to run diesel or gasoline!! (you could put a 200 gallon tank up, but Bunny, et al will have your balls at JBIC)!!

I have a 17kw natural gas generator on my house in Houston. I use it to run about half my house (I have a big house) including one air conditioner unit and two refrigerators. It's pricey, but during Ike my neighborhood was out of power for 10 days and it was a life saver for us. We have a generac brand and haven't had any problems, but it's the only one I have ever had so it's the only brand I can speak to.

Gleach: Now where exactly is your house? I coulda used some a/c, and lights after Ike, so do ya mind if some of us come by and like the Clampett's "Sit awhile" ha Ha. Nice set-upo and that is the way to do it right.

If you have natty gas, go for it. Some use diesel because the engine tends to last longer. But the issue with any kind is the generator motor windings. Beware, many of those generator motors are cheap trash made in China, and by the salty air can flunk-up your unit pretty fast - like how fast outside A/C units corrode. Your best motors are made here in the US with thicker winding wire, more of them, and heavy-duty brushes. I ain't no expert but that's what the oldtimers tell me.

Sure is nice to drink refrigerated cold beer in the cool A/C when the power is off, eh?

Yep, those guys who work in the nat. gas business can make things happen. OR Not. I'm sure we can work out an arrangement to keep that gas flowing. I got an 80KW here at work and an endless supply of nat. gas since I'm sitting over some salt dome storage. My haus was out power for 22 days. Wanna guess where I slept?

Diesel fuel has a shelf life of maybe 6 months and old fuel can gum up the generator engine when you need to most.
