Never had this issue but I bet the dog just needs some assistance with the life jacket & it should grow out of it x2 but get it the jacket so s/he will level out while swimming back.We are West End Anglers, a saltwater tribe!

Poor puppy! I tried to work with my pit bull girl in the surf, and even got one of those orange doggie life jackets. Out we go and this poor puppy is floating with her rear up in the air like a red channel buoy, upside down. That big ole head is like an anchor I guess. I give her credit for tryin' though!

Actually it's not that uncommon for these pups having a hard time figuring out how to turn around after they pick up the dummy. My old lab Kodi did the same thing as a pup. They haven't figured out how to use their "rudder" (tail) yet. When they try to turn around without using the tail their arse drops. He will grow out of it but it's not something you want the guys you hunt with to see! LOL

I've seen a inexperienced dog swim like that before and suspect that your pup will grow out of it.
Whats really important in the video is the Lab's inherient and natural instinct to retrieve and lack of hesitation
to enter water over his head.
My lab has been total hell as a puppy but now at 14 month of age he is showing briliance at everything including the surf, swimming pools, retrieving anything and and catching a frisbee with style points and it's only going to get better.
These are supreme animals.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FBLbrJxGtro

haha! my pup does this too...she's a mut but i can see german shepherd characteristics come out now and then... we went to SLP this weekend and messed around in the surf. she's fine in shallow-ish water since her back paws are just walking on the sand, but as soon as she hits a deep hole, that arse sinks down, head pops up, and pretty much splashes water everywhere and gets nowhere lol i helped out a bit but by the looks of it we have a long ways to go...

Ha- My Lab loves the bow of the boat too. He stand's with his head lowerd and ears perked in the classic lab pose scanning the water for jumping mullet...in the back of my mind I'm always thinking, "I hope his juvinile azz don't jump out after one!"
I don't think he will though because I took wim for a slow ride around my neighborhood when he was around 6 months and he jumped and scratched up his chin...I don't think he forgot it. Now he loves to ride in the truck and even cooler is that my last two Labs I would have to help them get into the back with the lowered tailgate. My new lab makes this jump look easy.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FBLbrJxGtro

Thats a cool looking dog Marko. It'd be cool to have a dog day on the beach some time sitting back with shark rods.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FBLbrJxGtro
