  • Another lost to cancer

It always gets ya when a kid like Shad's gets the cancer and dies, but I got a story of a gal who fought cancer for over 30 years, and dang near won. Her name was Anita, God bless her she has just passed, but she grew up on a subdivision over a Superfund landfill called Love Canal in New York. Got Hogkin's Disease, a melon like lump on the neck.

Remarkably, she whipped that 4 times! Faith, prayer, and some really good doctors added many more years than even they thought possible, enough to have two brilliant kids now in college. Oh goodness, the look on her face when a man in a white plastic nuclear zoot suit brought her "the pill" encased in a huge lead box, we all cried. But she lived! We partied, got drunk, ate like kings, and had the best times of our lives. The "R" word was remission!

But after all that chemo, radiation, and nuclear pills, the old body wore out about 53 years old, couldn't take it no more, and she went Stage 4 with the liver, bones, blood, and brain all infected with the Big C. Sorry to bother y'all, but that hurt kinda bad. Gosh we tried and prayed so hard. I guess 5 times and you're out. Best friends, fishing partners, campers, boaters ... and now a big ole nothing. Y'all take care of your loved ones, ok?

That's a tough one Sammy. I won't say here how many I've known that were taken by this terrible disease. May God have mercy on her soul and bring peace to you , her family and all that knew and loved her. Please mercifull God guide the hands of all the researchers to find the cure.
