Well guys, I guess we were at the right place at the right time. It killed our fishing trip but here's the story.
We had planned a trip to the Galveston Jettys 3 weeks ago. The night before the trip I signed up for the CPR Black drum tourny here, I went to Fiests and bought some live crab and dead shrimp.
We launched about 7:25am and made a quick run to the north jetty. We had been fishing for about 2 hours working our way back on the calm side when all of a sudden, Justice, the boat owners son said, " Those guys on the jetty rocks sure must be tired" They were about 1000 feet past the boat cut. IT dawned on the boat owner that they were stranded. The tide was rolling pretty violently. We made our way to them and we asked if they were ok. They were shaken up but dry. Each wave that hit the boat looked as it was the last the boat would see. Since the boat was a 78 it was not insured.
They were anchored up and started their boat and picked up the anchor and they lost power. They were on the channel side and it only took one swell to park their boat on the Jetty. They had to jump in the water and boy was it a good feeling pulling them in one by one. THe boat owner and two sons took out their emergency suplies, towels etc and let them dry them selves and collect their thoughts while we radioed the coast guard. We hailed them on 16 and no one replied. When we got to the yacht basin, someone was reporting that boaters were missing from a wrecked boat on the jetty. We radio'd in and anwered the call with all the details they requested. It was a quite ride back. They offered a nice cash amt for recuing them but that did not feel right, taking that from someone that just lost their boat at the start of a fishign season.
The boat owners wife called him to see how they were once they were on the boat. Thats when he told her what happened. It was a darn shame that as we left a boat was already at the sceen as if they were going to take their gear.
The trip was a bust since we decided to call it a day an hour after we dropped them off.
All in all this was a learning experiance for me. I too lost power a month ago and that could have easily been me.
