It'll be interesting what happens-I bet the GLO says "whatever ya wanna do is OK" just like they did when they closed the beach by Pointyhead West. I don't care-I don't hang at the Seawall-my position is the COG politicos are a bag of rocks and only line pockets of their "buddies" at all others' expense.

They play a nice tune, but when you hear the words it sounds more like "Paul is dead, Paul is dead." They speaketh with forked tongue and say what folks wanna hear (only 10% of revenue will go to Administration"-sure, and I throw back 10-12# trout every day I fish-has the same meaning-BS).

How can Galveston do this? Seawall Boulevard belongs to the state of Texas not the city of Galveston. They were told once before they couldn't put up parking meters on State property.

any TRUE islander knows that Galveston never enforces parking regulations unless its in the face of a big event like the biker rally or mardi gras etc. I put money in a meter here ONE time and that was a lapse of judgment.

But like Yan said, no pay for residents please.

I dont know why paid parking hadnt happened years ago. My Gosh, before any event here, the rv's, trucks, bbq pits that set up along the seawall DAYS before the event happens is crazy, and for FREE ?. Who do you think ends up cleaning up the mess left behind. And exactly, $25.00 is not bad for a year's parking. Heck, you cant even drive on Matagorda without buying a pass. Come on now. My only concern is for the 61st Street pier owners. Something creative needs to be lent to them, I dont know, maybe a yellow tag with a date on it for the cars/trucks given from the pier to exclude them from paying for parking that day, maybe something like the state park? Just throwing some ideas out there, and no, I dont have any personal or financial interest with them.

True that the Fishtails lot will be a parking garage. It's the only way they could get the project approved.


As for paid parking. this is a project that won't create any $ for the city. The idea of installing electric parking meters in a saltwter enviornment just won't work. all the revenue created will have to go to serviceing, repairing, and replacing the meters. The only people that will win is the guy who replaces the rusted parking meters.

I don't go downtown in Houston to play either-especially since the night time meter parking-used to hang at La Carafe for many years-not anymore-plenty of "Free" places closer to home. I agree paid parking isn't the worst thing they (COG) should do, and I hope they use the funds for doing improvements on the Seawall, but I doubt it. They seem to take good ideas and ruin them in general. Look at the Beach Pocket parks-rarely used. Look at what they've done to the access at the West End-ruined forever by a trust fund beotch so they could cause more development of the likes of Pointe West which is a flop essentially. All for grabbing $ without little benefit to citizens.

Remember, downtown was free parking at nite-not anymore.

Jerry, you can't go to downtown Houston without having to pay for parking why should Galveston be any different? I have no problems paying for parking to go eat on the strand or visit my local watering hole, in fact most street meters are not active on weekends.

Regardless, it is farged up-I will not visit the Strand because crappy parking and pay parking-all this will do is keep some folks from coming down and I don't care whether they do or not, but I bet Academy will "Look" busy and so will every store or lot around the seawall. I think COG sux rotten eggs and they wanna spend millions bringing in welfare dregs for GHA to "cuddle" into $150k houses at our expense instead of moving the housing to mainland locales where less likely to blow away or flood-sometimes I believe the COG is just a bunch of rocks in a bag-no farging brains or thought whatsoever-just stoopeed idjits. I think they all oughta be POTUS-they have the same qualifications as Hussein Obama-none at all, except for greed and corruption.

Paid parking will keep the lowlifes out and some tourists-no matter what COG says, the $ will not go to "beautification", it will go into "Administration Costs" which of course some COG member will make sure their BOI buddy/cousin makes $ off of the deal at taxpayer expense like all other BS they do.

Seems to me that COG looks solely for $ and provides little service. They welcomed Beach party and clogged all the streets for a bunch of non-spending mostly thug crowd-very much like the idjits on park Board where they throw "Rap" bands -a/k/a Thugery and gun shooting at the best fishing area along the beachfront so no one but thugs go. 90% of folks on galveston would never attend a Rap function at Apfel park, so WTF have them anyway? What about monthly sand castle building or something a little family oriented instead of "Kill Cops and Whitey" muzik (if ya call it music)?

Charging different fees because of residency is a violation of what was formerly the Tx Open Beach Act-you cannot charge "groups" different rates to access Texas Beaches-it is discrimination. The Seawall paid parking will need GLO approval also is my understanding.

Note that the paid parking time is from 9-6, so early morning parking for fishing, till 9, is free.

Maybe they could charge a lower fee for city dwellers (using your Galv. water bill for proof) and a higher fee for visitors. You would have to link the parking pass to the vehicle, otherwise Islanders would scalp or lend out their pass.

On a side note, there is free parking when you go to the Khema boardwalk, they better pass this before the Flagship boardwalk or whatever thats called is constructed so people don't complain about the parking fees being implemented after the fact.

Landry's owns about 5 acres across the street from Flagship boardwalk (Pleasure Pier), which includes Fish Tales. I'd assume Landry's will put some structured parking there, if not, some on the pier (their building permit will require proof they can provide off-street parking). And charge for it, in the manner they do at Pier 22, issue a free voucher if you patronize their place.
