  • 2011 Day 1 Crab Trap Cleanup

Went out this morning around 10 after the fog had a chance to thin a bit. Started in the Diversionary and wound up down around Karankawa. Tide was really low! There were a few traps that I couldnt get to -- (arsed up and left my waders in the truck). I met up with Westendangler and Oleander Kayaker over at fat boys and told them where they were just in case they made it back past there. If not I'll get em tomorrow. I was pleasantly surprised this year that there were noticeably fewer traps that I was able to find (as compared to last year). Maybe we're doing some good!! Total for the day was 14. The kids and wife had a blast and are ready to go for more. Here's a few pics from the day!

Great job!! Also, if Antibes in jumbile cove I walked in there from my house this evening to fish and found an abandoned trap but couldn't carry it back to the road so I drug it up on the geo tube. It's on the geo tubes on the east side of the cove straight across the marsh from bob smith road, which is Jamaica beach. It's almost to the end of the geo tube heading towards the gulf. If you need some better directions send me a pm. I pulled it up hoping someone with a boat might see it within the next few days. Thanks guys!

I feel so good in that the traps are not so prolific as they had been in the past years. Scout and I picked up more than I can count the first and second year here around JB, no hunting for them back then, just getting to them, towing to the shoreline and throwing them into the back of the truck, so the hunt for finding a few, is wonderful. Not that I havent already found a few out and plan on getting them out of the eco-system, mind you, but what a success story this has been. Its nice that we ALL have been part of it.

Oleander Kayaker & I cruised the south shoreline and it looks to be clean from Pirates all the way to 8 mile. We found one in Harbor Walk, we stopped in and said hello to a few of the guys at the Specktacular I think we got like 5 or 6 & one 250' coiled wire.

Dang sorry I missed you guys. I launched from Fat Boy's earlier in the day, talked to the TPW guys but had no idea what was going on. I'll be on the ball and join in next time.
