I lost Fat Albert today y'all. I just buried him under my fig tree next to his friend, Slider whom I lost last year. I'm just completely torn up. Many of y'all have met Albert at the camp, and it seemed that everyone always enjoyed his company. It's amazing how our pets truly become our family, the unconditional love they offer, and their passing is so very painful. Our time with them is a gift from God.
I knew that this day would soon come when I got him back in '05. The vet recommended destroying him then due to his condition (FIV). The vet said he probably wouldn't last long. I decided that whatever time he had left would be the best of his life. He lasted 5 years and 5 months. He battled back every time it looked like he was done. He was doing so well that it was a huge shock today to lose him. Over the years, I've dug several holes in the back yard for him, thinking then that he wouldn't make it. Today I dug the last one. He was my constant companion and I feel lost without him. Rest in peace my buddy.
