When I was growing up, a local, lakeside bar (in Wisconsin) used to pull a wrecked car out onto the ice and have a betting pool as to when, exactly, the car would fall through the ice in the spring (for up there, like April). A 24 hour watch would be set-up near the expected event. They would attached a chain to winch it out after the break through.
