It kills me when I see people running in what little grass we have, that there is a thread in itself lol.

I hope we get some answers on the barge canal. I go back there too from time to time.
I have never caught fish in the canal itself, yes a few bites and dink trout at the mouth a flounder too but that's about it. I do my main fishing in that duck pond and the back lakes just because I have the setup to get away from the crowds and run skinny.

At the same time I wade Meacoms and that area has really started to revitalize, Even in my boat I have the motor half out of the water & am putting out slowly, just to prevent any part of the prop even coming close to the sea grass. I am heavily in favor of having protected no prop zones for us poling, kayak and wading guys. I think eventually its going to come to that, but who knows; as Ray said we do fly under the radar here in West Bay.

Ok here is the scoop. The gate and barges in the canal are for work being done by Waste Management to rebuild the road(where the washout is) and to shore up the levees around the old pits. Ike did some damage that needs to be repaired and that is what they are doing. During tis construction they are using barges for a bridge to get dump trucks from one side to the other. They are supposed to install pipe culverts for a bridge where the washout is and will also be placing rocks along the IWC side. It was told that they originally wanted to drive sheet piles across the canal and leave them to help curb erosion from passing barges, I think they backed off on that idea. Anyway, access to the area is going to be restricted while this work is going on. Once complete, the barges and all the equipment will be removed. Waste Management is responsible for the pits which are empty and sealed. Hall Bayou Hunting Club owns the property and I believe the canal is private. My sources are top secret and classified so don't ask! LOL

Gater's info is good. The group doing the work should be out in 4-6 weeks. There are 5 culverts already in place so tidal flow will still be active where the washout used to be. I ran across the duck lake to have a look. It is real skinny, but the bottom is soft.

It is closed off and looks permanent to me-high dollar work to do all that and those culverts-yep FoF-no bueno senor.
"Hey Hillary, regarding the Benghazi Attack on 9/11-we'll just blame it on that movie, not my total lack of security. By the way, what's so significant about 9/11 anyway-was that a date my buddy Bill Ayers of the Weather Underground blew up a government building?" asked Obama to Hillary. I caught a grand slam drifting live shrimp near that barricade during spring break, it's not hurting the fishing

I drove past there on sunday it looks way different out there. I used to love fishing out there. It wasnt always productive, but you could sometimes find that gator hanging out around there or spot coyotes near by. I hope they reopen it.
