  • Howdy from Jigr

Greetings to all and glad to be here! Plugger is my younger brother (don't hold it against me!!) and he told me about the site. Have enjoyed reading the reports and discussion already.

Me? I'm a long way from the 'ole stomping grounds around Galveston, but I have fond memories. Our Dad was a fishing nut (thankfully), and most of our family outings were fishing and crabbing in the Galveston area. We have salt in our blood. I subscribe to Texas Fish and Game and enjoy reading about what is going on back there.

When I visit Houston, Plugger is a great host and we go fishing. Last visit, he let me use his spare yak (yeah, he has two) and we went out on East Bay. I didn't know quite what to expect, but in no time I felt right at home in the skinny boat. We didn't have a killer day - I caught one spec and a monster sting ray (I thought I had a big red) - when I got him to the boat, I decided to donate my plug to him rather than try to rassle it from him in the yak!

I got transplanted here to Washington State after a hitch in the Army and love the beautiful scenery, lakes, salt fishing, river fishing, hunting, and all the rest. But part of me is still there in the bay. Hope to be back soon for another visit. In the meantime, catch a few for me!

    God bless, and tight lines!

    Jigr (Jim)

Well, this is without forewarning and I would like to state for the record that any negative comments about my character and fishing abilities are totally unfounded as witnessed by his total lack of sound judgement and state of mind by remaining in a liberal, wintery part of the nation completely devoid of speckled trout, red fish, southern flounder , gulf oysters , baitcaster reels, wade fishing, and concealed carry permits. He always was the black sheep of the family and mom liked me better. WELCOME ANYHOW BRO !!

                      Thanks

Hey, Thanx for the nice welcome, guys! (except for Plugger!) I forgive him, I think he's a little jealous of the great fishing here in WA and my collection of level wind reels, the great weather we've been having, maybe the 70 salmon I caught in about a month and a half, the bottom is paved with flounders (the yankees call them sole, limit 15 and no size restrictions - flounders, that is, not yankees) and CWP? Heck, my wife even has one! He has a point, though, about the pesky liberals, but we are working on it!

He is forgiven, though, I may need his kayak again! I probably shouldn't have outfished him, either!

BTW, why the name Jigr? A metal jig that looks like a baitfish (herring, etc) will catch just about anything that swims in the salt here, and I like using them.
