I am with you on the Learning part This is my first year with a boat I have always fished from shore night fishing with a Generator & spot light, One place to watch out for is San Luis Pass! LOTS of Sand Bars!! I have seen lots of people get stuck on the sand bars over there in jon boats, Use google earth to look at the water that will help you finding the deeper waters. And Winter Time (Cold Fronts) will push out the water so if you know a place where the water is normally not very deep I would not go there Especially if a Big Cold front just came through! Good Luck & Happy Fishing!!

Cast and retrieve, repeat. Drink a beer, cuss, repeat. Keep it up for 40 years and you'll be a pro.

Put your time in on the water and learn your area... That always works, Hire Capt. Greg aka aqua pimp to learn the hazards of the bay. Just my .02 for what it is worth. Potlicking is not a good practice. LMAO
