  • Steep learning curve

Mark S. here. Got really my first boat a couple of months ago, a 1998 Cobia 174 90hp Yamaha. Been to TX City dike twice and Thompson's a few times with limited success. Learn alot each time. Obviously I need to start putting together where, when and how to fish the different species and seasons. My son goes with me and it has been great spending time away from the wives. Really would like to increase the numbers though.

Great forum. Maybe see y'all on the water.

Welcome to FWE. You'll get alot of good information on this site. As KennyWayne said, the TroutSupport videos are very good. I also can't stress enough how fast you can get up the learning curve by booking a trip with one of the great guides that support this site.

If you are committed to learning it yourself, more power to you. Read through the old posts on this site and ask questions. I'm by no means an old salt - I've had plenty of questions answered by the friendly folks on FWE.

Some good advice mentioned above. There are about 8-10 articles written by guides that are mixed in with all of our news updates. Be sure to give them a read.

As with any hobby, there is a steep learning curve. You'll have to put your time in to learn the fish patterns and the seasons. Just get out there and fish. When you have a great day, just try to remember what you did right, and repeat that the next time the situation is the same. Going out with a fishing guide is your best and quickest way to learn. There are several on this site. Good luck and happy fishing!
