  • GISP help or how to , ( fish the area and stay out of the weeds )?

Last summer I tried my hand at use lures from a yak out of GISP, the depth out there is 0 - 3 feet and no matter what I threw
or how i pulled it in I had grass . My question in how to fish that area ? Im on old hand at fishing the surf but not the bay
around gisp. Tips info or how to would be great,

First of all, Welcome aboard! Go on over to the welcome board and introduce yourself. We tend to be more talkative with folks we know.

As far as the grass goes, I know what you mean. Try using weedless spoons or rigging you plastics weedless. Also, pull up the area you're fishing on Google Maps before you go. http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&ba...A&ved=0CHQQtgM
Zoom in so you can find where the grass is and isn't. If you're in a yak you can cover a lot of water so you can avoid the grassy areas.

What kind of lures were you using?

If you are throwing spoons, use weedless ones, and with grubs/plastics, use a 1/16 or 1/8 oz. leadhead.

If you like topwaters, remove the treble hooks and install single hooks where the barb faces the bottom of the lure (upside down). A live bait hook has a short shaft that works well in this application. They will still hook the fish, and are pretty weedless.

Tide has been out with north winds so your water level is below normal currently.

This was my track. funny it didnt look at all like the map shown. and it appeared to be low tide that day.
I had a bunch of waypoints marked i wanted to fish but we tired quickly in the wind. This track must have been
on the way back notice how , lets get back straight it was..

There's a better put in at Oak Bayou that's fairly well protected. You might want to start there instead of the launch in Lake Como.

Going to give it another try around 4th of july. Last time , lots of fat croaker right off the launch site . dead shrimp worked great. did not do much with live. I could not find my geotube last time. battery died on gps so we just looked and fished. not the same as last year.

About half of the GISP has no grass.
