I uploaded a profile picture but its not showing up unless i go to edit profile. Anyone know what the deal is?

There is a difference between a "Profile Photo" which only display on your profile & an "Avatar" which is displayed on every post... Your Profile Photo & Avatar can be two different files (photos). So be sure to choose 1 for your avatar, the other for your profile photo. Can you have the same one? Yes. But you have to upload it twice. Once to Profile Photo the next time to Avatar.
