guy's i just recieved this billystix custom grouper rod that i built for a fishing buddy's wife that i used to fish with back in the 70's when i was running my 28 ftr off the grouper ground's here in fla, i built it for his wife for xmas so that my wife at the time could give it to her as a gift, i just can't remember the exact year but it was back when i was doing rod building for just my friends and thing's like that not like today.
on with the story jimmy sold his boat several years ago to a charter capt i found out opn mon this week from the charter capt, he has long since parted with that boat and of course has had others in the years past, but he aquired this rod from the deal "all goes with the boat deal" the captain's wife likes the billystix and has been using it weekly she said for the last 13 years and they called me to see if i could repair the reel seat "the glue had become brittle" and the reel seat was loose and i said yes of course, so today he brought it to me for repair and told me how many rod's he has been thru since his wife took over the billystix 13 years ago and we was just amazed at the condition of this rod after 30 to 35 years of use "can i be humble at this point and say quality rules"
    thank's guy's

That's got to be a cool feeling to have a rod you build years and years ago pop back up in 'perfectly used' condition. WTG Billy.

yes, but the reel cool thing about this rod is that it belonged to one of my very best grouper fishing buddy's "and beer drinker's" not to mention that his wife and my wife both at that time had the same idea's about very close idea's about the same pleasures and we all fished 3 days a week for years, i can't begin to tell you guy's the amt of grouper that we caught during the
70's i was 35 and full of wellllllllllll let's just say steammmmm
and i have had many a day when we unloaded upwards of 300# of grouper that we caught on my boat alone, no gps, no bottom machine just a compass and a couple of milk jugs, we had a 10 ft flag that we placed on the area at the end of the day, took a compass reading back home, ran the same rpm's for the same amt of time until we reached the hill, wroth it down.
next moring same compass heading same r.p.m same amt of running time and all of a sudden there was the 10 ft flag, it's now time for fish on, had many a day when we have had 6 or 8 flopping in the bottom of the boat , just leave them alone until the bite is over then pick them up $$$$$$

yes, pounder you are correct it is a collectors item for sure, it's funny how my rod building has changed format over the years, i mean the style of my work but i still maintain the same degree of professional type stuff even then and i did not have a clue at that time what i was doing, it was just that i knew what it took to do the job that we were trying to get done and i guess it must have worked, like today they are all about "jigging" hell i was doing that when i was 30 years old, every time the boat stopped my jig went over the side and lots of time i would hit fish right off and have a big boy bending the rod double and while he was doing that i had the tail anchor sitting on the platform and i would take my foot and kick it over, when it hit bottom i would stop pulling mr grouper and tie the anchor off and then get back to bidness next thing you know we would some times have another 6 or so grouper in the boat in less than 15 minutes but you had to hustle because when the hog is feeding it's time load up because those hog's can and will shut down on a second's notice and you will play the heck to get them back on the feed you might as well pack it up and move on the hog is dead then
