I gotcha now. 74% of the 50% own Exxon. Still lots of americans not in the markets. My advisory account has made great gains since Obama has came in and in fact the gains are getting closer to what a drug lord can make.
I cannot for the life of me why the financial people shy away from the progressive agenda unless they see something in the economy that still aint right.
BTC, I'm sure you have made lots of $$$ for your clients also but I could care less exactly what my advisor wants to get me into to make a buck. He's got me spread out in crap that I absolutely know nothing about. He does lean toward anything that has decent dividends.
I give him all kinds of hell cause he is a poker player and loves to hit Vegas and the casinos across the Sabine but does quite well.Or so says he.

I have made no reference to a number of Americans who get a pension...my figure is stating a % of ownership...in other words...I am only talking about those who receive a pension. Of all those who receive some pension of some sort...74% of them are owners of Exxon stock. That was my only point...they are ones I giggle at who run down the energy companies and yet take their money...that's all I'm saying. The number gets bigger if you add in anyone who owns mutual funds.Originally posted by mgstei1 View PostThe facts I see are that only 50% or less of Americans even have a 401 or a pension ?So, how can more than 50% of Americans even have the institutional ownership ? Don't make sense to my uneducated arse. Please explain further
I am a blind monkey I guess LOL

Sometimes people may not have that opportunity or choice because of making a living and raising a family or taking care of a sick family member or whatever. I don't really believe that anyone would want to stay in a minimum wage job but that might be the only career choice they have. I always give anyone the benefit of the doubt but also believe they deserve to make a decent living when working and making a corporation huge profits for stockholders and then taxpayers having to help with government assistance so they can just get by. last Christmas, Walmart employees were getting SNAP benefits and then also doing food drives for employees that were working with them.Originally posted by Beandaddy View PostIf they are 35 years old and earn minimum wage, they should have left Burger King a long time ago and learned a trade.

I have a financial advisor that handles some of my assets and I also have energy stocks. But I also pay him to make me money and if he don't than I'll go elsewhere. Energy stocks or not. But a blind monkey could have been a financial advisor in this economy and made $$ back. Or that's what I tell him when he claims he made me money. I was ready to bail but in 2008 but he said we were in this for the long term so I went with what he said.
Its amazing how Obama has brought the economy backout with 10Million new jobs and the market doubling. But even he is a conservative and still does not like the shape of our economy. I guess mittens would have supposedly done better by letting the automakers go bankrupt. I still dislike Obamas treatment of the banking industry and to me some of those guys should be in the pen.
Mr R's threads always and I mean always get sidetracked.

mgstei....I do not have a PhD...I do have a grad school under my belt and over 20 years working in this industry...not oil...the capital markets. The % of people who own stock quote...you misunderstand...go back and look at my post...INSTITUTIONAL ownership is the key. You are looking at how many INDIVIDUALS own stock. You are correct there. However, pension funds, state and local funds, all mutual funds...these are institutional. So folks who receive pensions DO depend on Exxon stock...they are one of the widest held companies in the world. The majority of people do not know HOW their pension money is created or where it comes from. That is fine and I have no issue with that. However, I do think that folks SHOULD try to learn as much as possible about where their money comes from but that's just me. You can fact check if you like and you will see that my %'s are as of Tuesday's market close. I hope I am not coming across as bombastic at all in this post as I am not. Just trying to educate...
How this thread got on to minimum wage is beyond me. The entire point of this thread is ownership of Exxon stock.

Atta way Boom!!Originally posted by boom View PostI'm in the 80% that pays every employee well above the minimum wage. How much you YOUR employees make?
Here is some numbers from NY Times. I cannot believe some of the comments that these men are making.
Minimum-wage workers are older than they used to be. Their average age is 35, and 88 percent are at least 20 years old. Half are older than 30, and about a third are at least 40.
Workers with families. Hard workers. They all deserve better from places such as Mc Donalds, Burger King, Walmarts.
In the states that have raised the minimum wage their unemployment has gone down and businesses are thriving because of more $$ in circulation.
I remember when Reagan wanted to lower the minimum wage and my 16 yr old son was working at Krogers(union). I told him if they do then to quit cause I didn't want my son to be someones slave. Still don't.
Some of you guys are hilarious, and Mr Troop, I'll vote next Tuesday and will cancel yours as well. But that's okay, as my precinct here in Alvin has 2500 voters and in 2012 election for prez only 210 voted democratic.
The struggle goes on.
Think I'll get up from my morning nap and go fishing.

If its raised, 1.8 million Americans will no longer need or be eligible for government assistance. So is that a savings or an expenditure or a debit or a credit to Americans ?

I've been working all over the US in the oil patch the last year and can tell you there are so many high paying jobs and opportunities out there its unreal. If you aren't happy flipping burgers at Mcdonalds...get a CDL and drive a truck in Texas, work on a rig, work in construction....I meet a lot of young guys making close to 6 figures with no GED..What's so special about them? They get off their *** every morning and work till the sun goes down and earn every buck they take home.Originally posted by mgstei1 View PostSo you are in the 20% that don't want to raise the minimum wage, while the rest of the 80% are in agreement to raise it.

Are you ready for inflation? When O&O for a business goes up, it is passed on to the consumer. If the demand for the product is not there, then the business folds. When the business folds, there is no employees (Union or not). When there is fewer businesses and fewer people employed, there is less revenue (taxes) for the government. When there is less revenue for the government, we fall deeper in debt as a country..., let the business decide, not the government or media polls.Originally posted by mgstei1 View PostSo you are in the 20% that don't want to raise the minimum wage, while the rest of the 80% are in agreement to raise it.

Oh, and I cancelled out your straight ticket vote today when I cast my vote. Have a good night and tight lines tomorrow if you go fishing.
