  • Christmas Bay Scouting

Well, due to losing my lease this offseason it looks like I'll be hunting public lands for the first time. I'm planning on doing some scouting in Christmas this Sunday, if any of y'all are out there and see a midget driving a Shallow Sport and looking some what clueless feel free to say hi! I have a quick question though if yall don't mind. What's the ramp like at Ernie's, is it considered public, or is there a fee box? Also, how's the parking situation?

Why are you scouting? There are no ducks here. Seriously... I wouldn't even get on the water searching for ducks until September. You are better off fishing right now.

We'll be fishing it too. I'm hoping to get out there before it gets too hot and do some wading, then cruise around and check out the bay/shorelines in general. I'll probably only get a few free weekends to familiarize myself with that bay before teal season. It's only two short months away.

Christmas bay sucks as far as duck hunting goes. Go more east or way west.

West bay has a lot of open duck blinds that are never used... First come first serve...,
              Don't follow my boat......I don't catch fish......

There's something about crawling into a blind that someone else built and hoping they don't show up that doesn't appeal to me. I'm thinking more along the lines of finding some pieces of shoreline that are dry enough to put a layout blind, etc. I'll scope it out Sunday.

So how about that ramp? Is it in decent shape?

it don't matter if they show up or not, you got there first. seriously, you won't be doing any good fishing a layout blind in Christmas. Boat ramp is in decent shape.

Christmas dont have birds. And if u are going to scout, like they are saying, now is going to do you no good.

Too early to scout... And when it comes down to the bird killing... Not many are killed... Christmas to east bay... There are so many factors contributing to less and less bird sightings...your best bet it to leave the bays for the fish and get in a duck lease nearby home... I might have a few contacts... Blasting steel shot across the bay for 2 birds isn't worth dealing with the drama west bay already carries.... You haven't met the west bay crabber yet obviously... Christmas doesn't carry any birds either... Talk to GHSmacker about birds... You'll have to follow him though!

Good luck hunting anywhere on the good days, that water sucks out.... You need an air boat or a Gator-Tail to access most places! Remember a few years back when West Bay almost froze over & did in places like Hitchcock & Diversionary Canal? Yeah it got this bad...

Yes a conversation with GHS would be a good educational experience... He live, breaths, eats, sleeps, wakes up looking at the calendar calling his shrink and repeats the process all over again... Poor guy all for ducks the duck dynasty cats have absolutely nothing on GHS... You have to talk real slow too him now he is a Aggie...
