I tried a Catch 5 a little after I missed that big Trout but could get a bite on it.

GHSmacker missed one he!! of a Trout Monday morning down around the pass area. A few minutes later I missed one of the biggest blowups I have had in a while. Both of these missed fish were easy 7lbers. Ony blowups we had Monday under some brutal west winds. The Trout we did catch came on plastics, not many of them but the one we did catch were solid fish. 22" range.

Yep, i made a rookie mistake though. As soon as the fish blew up on the topwater, i set the hook and pulled it away from him. Dumb, dumb mistake on my part that i never should have made. That's what i get though, for not catching a fish on top yet this year. I was just excited.

And that was definitely a bad time.

I threw several times back into that same spot, and she never slapped at it again. Probably high tailed it right out of there.

When that happens pull the top water away from the fish or hop it out of her area so she don't follow the lure. Then tie on a Corky floater with a small piece of wire in the nose or a corky devil and you'll usually catch that fish.If you'll come back with a suspending lure you can get a solid hook-up.I fish top waters a lot of the time just to see where the fish are then actually catch them on a corky. Most times I won't give a trout a second chance to slap at a top water,I'll go back to the spot with a corky and catch her.I hope this helps with some of your missed fish on top waters.

Sneekypete...i've done that several times and had it work. I threw the top back in that area several times, then through on a plastic and she still didn't eat. I should have drug a corky or an old trusty 51mr through there, but i didn't. Shoulda, coulda, woulda i guess.
