Well it's March and they should be starting their way back in. Never tried this, but I would think high tide would
    have the best results.

I know about as much as you, but that would be my guess as well. Maybe Yan will give us some input.

Moderate to light N wind or very light S wind. Practically no breakers and good clarity. Tide does not matter much as there is no grassline that might flood too deep.

I have never gigged the surf, just egged my buddy to go cause he was off and conditions looked right. I talked to him and he actually saw all 4 fish in a ~20yd square area and got his 3 in 15 min right where he got in so it looks like surf gigging could be red-hot if you get it right.

As for all the scared folks, you are in far more risk from getting in a wreck on the way down or getting mugged in the night loading back up. Plus you are in shin to thigh deep water max. I get it though, you cant see around you and the imagination takes off and all that other stuff, but realistically yall....

I've never gigged in the surf but I have caught a few flounder in the surf. A bunch of us went out in the late 80s to the first rigs out of galveston looking for gulf trout and maybe a snapper or two. It was during the week of thanksgiving and all we caught were flounder. I don't know how many were down there but we were pulling them in 2 at a time on double hooked snapper rigs with squid. We were all very suprised and happy to find them stacked up like that.

To the first bar no more than a foot deep. Odds of being able to see any deeper than that is remote. Starting tonight through tomorrow night could be good if the clarity comes back at all.

Maybe but it was a quick turn-around for sure. Later this week if it gets calm like the forecasters are saying then it could have potential
