We have a deal in the works to have a small Gulf Coast Bay Skiff fitted with a CC and remote steering. I like the idea of having the battery under the center console for a little help with weight distribution. What do you guys and gals think? Does the starting battery have to be as close to the engine as possible?

If You mount it under the C.C. make sure your battery cables are big enough. What Engine/Horsepower? And far is the C.C. from
engine?

We are taking a bare GC Bay Skiff and slicking it up for my wife. She wants her own boat to go out and do her own thing. Based off your answers, I will be installing the batt under the CC.Comment

Put under CC, make sure heavy enuf gauge cables to take the amps-the cables will run more $ than the battery!! Ya might consider dual batteries??? But weight may be a major factor-you don't want the wifey screaming at ya that "The boat wouldn't start" because you already know "It's your fault." if it don't!!
