I have fished Karankawa and Greens for 25 years off and on...Karankawa more than Greens. There is lots of shell and mud (good redfish) in the lakes and if you go north to where the old Halls used to be...then you get into mud like what you are looking for. I always thought about going from one to the other the back way, just never did. I know that back canal is deep on the back side of Greens...I know this from first hand experience. I have seen that oyster reef between the two hard turns in the canal leading to Karankawa rip up many a boat...even a new one (how he got in there is beyond me).
