We will be passing on other fishing reports from last weekend in Wednesday’s Reel Report.

The Texas Shootout Chorizo Redfish Tournament will take place from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and features cash prizes for the winning teams. Two reds per two-man team will be allowed, and there is a side pot for the heaviest trout and flounder. The entry fee is $40 per angler, and the side pot costs $10 to enter.

Entry forms are available at Smitty’s Bait Shop and Causeway Bait and Tackle. For information, call Lee Garcia, 281-216-3215, or visit Taqueria El Nopalito, 15323 Gulf Freeway, the tournament headquarters. ""

          Rocky thanks for the info.

I work right up the road from this restaurant. I am going to swing in for more info and a burrito. I'll grab a flyer.

Looks like a fun tournament I may have to enter it. I'm on some toads right now. Just need to find a partner or may fish solo if they allow it.

I don't get it. A fishing tournament hosted by a restaruant that is 30+ miles from Galveston.??? It's probably a minimum 15 miles from any boat launch.

They are taking 20% off of the top.??? I'm just not that desperate to line someone elses pockets with my money. What are they giving away? Someone please tell me why you would fish this tournament.???

They don't have anything to do with fishing or boats!???

The Mexican food business must be slow...

This is what I know from visiting the restaurant during my lunch hour.......the group goes by SWAT (SaltWater Anglers of Texas). They hold their monthly meetings at this restaurant. I am guessing the members mostly live in the city (Houston/Pasadena).

You seem to be disturbed that the event is being held at a Mexican restaurant. The owner is a fisherman and has fisherman friends. It makes sense to me.

Let me ask this of the group: My family owns a Tex-Mex restaurant that is even farther away than the restaurant hosting the tourney. I have been given the "go ahead" by the family to sponsor this very website for a year. I just have not gotten around to getting process going. Since we don't have anything to do with boats or fishing, would we be wasting our money?

Makes sense to me... I would fish the tournament if I could and enjoy some fine mexican food afterwards..

Buoy, you and your family got my support whenever you need it and we would be happy to have them as a sponsor of the site.

                          Take care,
