  • West Bay back lakes

Hit up West Saturday. With the wind and a little tide we decided to try some back lake action. Found a few reds and a 1 trout over 1-2 ft of water in grass/shell/mud. Fish were holding in the cleaner water. Dark colors seemed best...caught all mine on red shad white paddle bassassasins. Also drifted a certain back canal and actually had a 32" plus red swim right up to the front of the boat. As I struggled to get off the platform, and grab the camera, Doug watched as it swam up to the boat then slowly go down under the boat. He immediately started jigging straight down, like fishing for a ling. he hooked up and then the beast proceeded to spool him. Oh well, low capacity reels with 12# backing maybe not such a good idea?
Ended the day with many throw back reds and trout...3 keeper reds and 6 trout to split. Good day of prefrontal water therapy!

Last shot is just a result of the first two...made some blackened red and ponchartrain sauce. Crab cakes and boiled shrimp to compliment.

Mmmm. Thanks for the scrumptious report. Makes cereal for breakfast (this cool AM) a little more palatable with the thought.

Great report. Yea I had a red make me rethink my 12lb test but I'm gonna stick with it. It's plenty strong and has great action plus were more likely to release the oversized red anyway.

Yeah, I used to live by the 12# until I went strictly braid. Now there is no way I could feel a light bite without braid. Plus, with braid, you normally get the fish in quicker and released thus not wearing them down as much, but everyones got their preference fo sho! Hey, hows the stick doing for you...I still have your clips! : ( I found them in my seat pouch the other day. : )

Aahahahah Now that's funny cause I just realized I had the stick, put it in the boat and just started using it about a month ago. Love it long as the current isn't too fast. Use it with the power pole to position the boat.

Cool report, always fun seeing big fish like that. Even more fun when they bite.

Coming from you...I will take that as a big compliment...yours are always detailed in the right way. Not specific but just enough if you know what I mean?

                            Good deal!

Did the blackened trout thing last night and man oh man oh man...that sauce was much better the next day. Anyone want the recipe?

Sure, I'd like the recipe. I need to find more ways to cook fishes.
