  • Fishing in the rain

Yesterday I met up with my party at 530 am and headed off to the far west end. About half way down we hit the first band of rain that kept us wet until 10am. Thank god it wasn't cold yesterday because we were just not prepared for the rainy conditions yesterday. We all had waders on and light jackets but no gear for the heavy rain we went through. I offered to go sit it out at the Sea Isle Marina but these guys were here to fish rain or shine lol.
The first spot we went to had alot of bait in the area and alot of Trout. Just couldn't get them to eat a topwater. I think the heavy rain had them pushed down low. But that OK because they still couldn't pass up a plum/char Assassin. I think we ended up with 12 Trout on our first wade. On our second spot we hit a big fat 0! The second spot we hit was a shell reef that had no slicks and no bait. We fished it for about 10 minutes and left. On the 3rd and last spot we went back to fishing an all mud bottom like we did on out first wade and caught 6 more Trout, 3 Reds, and a couple of nice Flounder.
Total for the day 18 Trout to 23", 3 Reds to 22", and 2 Flounder. All caught in water from about 2 to 3' over mud.

The last few weeks I have started catching more and more fish over mud or a mud shell mix. All of the winter time holes are starting to come alive and will get better with each front.

Thanks for the report AP. WTG in the rain!

By the way, what's so significant about 9/11 anyway-was that a date my buddy Bill Ayers of the Weather Underground blew up a government building?" asked Obama to Hillary.
