  • 6/6/2010 Game Warden

Hey just FYI- Went through SLP last Sunday with my son & friends. Stopped at that 1st well, only what 5 miles out, before we could tie up or anything the game warden was on us, boarded the boat, checked for fish, ( we had no fish ) had lots of beer & beer cans, checked life jackets only & asked us if we had seen anyone catching any fish-we said no. Did not ask for fishing license or anything- we had 3 lines out. Maybe he got back on his boat because his partner got their motors caught in our fishing lines! hahahah/ been going through the pass over 15 years and never been stopped by a game warden. I just wanted all to know.

    Later

We did catch a lot of sharks and we let them go

I am curious why he did not ask for any fishing license- did they want to see yours.

I've had the same thing happen several times.
The Wardens checked all my safety gear. Even checked the dates on the flares and fire extinguisher pressure.
Never did ask for the fishing license.
Even asked them if they wanted to see my license and all he said was "do you have any fish?"

Fished out in the harbor around GYB and one stopped us out on the water. Wanted to see life vests and looked at the fish. Did not ask for license either. I thought that it was kinda wierd as well. We were fishing the Hey Bob's bar annual tournament. Won first in largest stringer and second in calcutta. Fun day on the water.

I have been stopped several times and was escorted off the water by CG once because my Fire extinguisher had lost pressure.
Glad to see them out doing their job, but I wish they would spend more time ticketing the illegal fishermen.

You were illegal...damn non fire extinguisher checker!

Usually they want proof of registration(even with the tags on the side)...fishing license not so much. I bet they ask all the non english speaking jetty walkers though...what yall wanna bet?

I've been boarded by the CG and GW at least a dozen times (twice by 2 different ones in 15 minutes) over the last couple of years and have never been ticketed for anything. I've always been legal with everything current and out of all of those times, never been asked for a fishing liscense.

PS.....Moonpie.......you don't need flares on your boat.
I work just enough to pay for my fishing habit.

Its kind of funny about the game warden! I only get stopped when I have my friend Baywader on board! I can be out in the middle of nowhere to the back lakes like Jones and here they come.

I am glad they do there jobs but don't like the gun ho ones. I did not do anything to them and sorry they have to deal with others who argue with them. I try to keep clean with them but its aways one apple in the bunch you remember most.

We pay them so I hope to see them out there doing the job they do. If they would open up the dike in TC they can write thousands of illegal tickets each weekend. Food for thought.

I got checked up the bayou in chocolate during the FWE toureny ....

I saw them coming, so I pulled out the Life jackets, and I guess he thought I was trying to be smart ..... when he approached .... I said what else can I show you .... he said everything ... fish, license, ....etc ..... So I pulled out my Lifetime License and started talking about the flounder work I do, and they did'nt need to see anything else .... they were happy to see I was on their side and honestly ..... I was happy to see them checking people ...

These guys have it hard, attitude by fisherman alot of times, while keeping us safe, and trying to protect OUR resources from yahoos, who think it's OK to steal .....

What ever they need from me they will have ..... Thanks TPWD for doing what you do

                              Visual signals

USCG safety requirements apply if fishing outside the jetties or cuts. Visual signals are part of the gear.....
