  • What not to do in West Bay

Albert called me this am and asked if I wanted to make a quick wade, so we headed out to West. we were in the water for about 30 min when this shoalwater came flying in and came to an abrupt stop on top of a reef in about 6" of water. We kept going for about 30 min and decided we would help out before the tide was out too far and we couldn't get them off the reef.
We ran over and tied all of our ropes together and tried to pull for about 30 minutes, but we didn't have enough rope to get out deep enough to get a good bite. We kept get pulled over to the shell and churning it up with Albert's new prop.
We finally called Jeremy and had him run down to help. He arrived about 20 minutes later and we tied his rope to ours and after about 30 more minutes we had them out.
We then were out of time and had to run in, but Albert did catch 2 trout and a red (kept one of each) on that first and only wade. I threw tops the whole time and didn't get a single blow up.
There were boats all over the place on the way back in.
We also found on the way back in that we must have gotten some shell/mud in the lower unit because the water pressure kept going down. it was peeing water, but not much pressure.
When I got home and was cleaning up I found that my new Everlast reef boots are worn through after 2 trips. I had my last pair for well over a year. I will be taking them back and buying something else if I can find anything in my size. I have been looking everywhere for the last couple of months, but everlast is the only ones I have found in a size 15.

Jeremy is a little overly cautious with his boat(I guess it's better than being the other guy!) He idled in from about 300yds away.

He is not a tourny angler, He bought that boat and didn't take off the wrap! He lives in BV and he is always blowing by people in West as to say "LOOK AT ME". He almost put that boat up on the reef in front of Harbor Walk a week ago!

Chip how could you possibly wear through the boot soles in two trips? You might be dragging your feet a little too heavy!

My bad, everyone knows that tournament anglers would never do anything like that.

He was definitely not a tourney guy....he just has a pretty boat to show everyone what a great fisherman he is. What is funny is that we were wading a pretty small enclosed area and Albert asked him where he was headed....He said "We were going to drift where you were wading!" WTF.......Should have at least taken the money he offered to get a new water pump in Albert's boat. It is going to cost him to get the hull repaired on that pretty boat!

i would have left them hanging. people that dont respect the water or the ones in it shouldnt be out there.
the fishing was good,it was the catching that was bad.

I have seen this guy out there before. Infact I was coming out of Karankawa and there were fishing at the mouth by the inter coastal canal. They didnt want to move there lines that were all the way across the cut. so I told my dad to hold on and jumped the small strip of land at the mouth of karankawa cut and hit the inter coastal. with the wrap on the boat I just figured that he was just another guide.
