It was another AWESOME DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My dad was coming to town today, so I took the day off so Kaylin and I could spend the evening with him and his wife.
I knew that they would not be here until around 2pm so i called my buddy Capt. Clint Sholmire last night and we agreed to meet at my house at 0630...(Kaylin worked till 7 am)
Clint arrived shortly after 0630 and we were off in hopes of Toads!!!!!!!!!!!! We turned the corner of my canal into the main Bayou Vista channel and first thing we see is a red busting against the shoreline of the main canal.. We shut the motor off and both start casting at where the red was and SLAM im hooked up.. I bring in a solid 6#er and im thinking.. WOW, this is gonna be a good day!!!!!!!!!!!
We arrive to the spot we had talked about fishing the night before and within moments we see our first group of reds.. About 15 fish to this group and we proceed to catch 2 of them before they scatter.. As we move further along i see a boat up in the distance and we slow down to not crowd the other boat.. As were moving down our shoreline, we spy another group coming down the shoreline towards us. Its another small group of bigger reds.. We pick 1 of this group as Clint makes a perfect cast and i throw a awful one lol.
Slowly as we aproach the bayou qietly, I start to recognize the boat and angler. Its Chip, another fishwestender (imhammer)and i can see that he has some kids with him and one is bowed up on a stud redfish.. Clint and I talk about how great it is for him to have kids out with him and slammin some redfish...
We chit chat for a few as we pass by them and make our way 500 or so yards away and motor towards our final destination. We make our way back to a bayou that has a few small flats that usually pool up fish on the outgoing tide. Sure enough, the outgoing tide has pulled them out of the marsh onto the flat and they were scattered but quite receptive to a TTF killer flats minnon in pump/chart....
As we hit our area, there are tons of fish pushing here and there and EVERYWHERE... We can not look in front of us without seeing redfish heads, wakes, tails and pushes in all directions... We both look at eachother and kinda giggle with anticipation.. We proceed to work our normal routine and HAMMER the fish for a few hours.
All in all, we caught a legitimate 50 fish with about 40 of them being 24" slots.. It was sick, we just kept looking at eachother talking about how cool it is to get to fish like this... If only this was tournament day lol. We ended the day with our limit of 6 reds and 1 token trout. We culled through the reds as we caught them to see what kind of tournament day we would have and sure enough we had 16#s with our two biggest reds.
It was a great day spent with a good friend just having alot of FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
