  • 9/10/09 West Bay Big Girl

Fished with GSB and one of his buddies today. Started in the surf at 5:45am and then moved to the bay at 9:00am. Caught a bunch of ladyfish in the surf, but no trout.
Fished all over West Bay and even into Chocolate. We were very lucky with the weather and never had a storm come close.
We had a ton of Blow-ups on top, but few commitments. We caught a bunch of undersize reds and trout as well as 5 keeper trout and 1 keeper red. Most were caught on top, but a few fell to tails under a popping cork. The fishing was tough as we only caught a few fish at each stop.
I caught this 29" beauty on a Chart/Black SS Jr. She was a little fatter than the one I caught a couple of weeks ago, but still pretty skinny. I had to go back and measure her 3 times as I couldn't believe she was really that big. She was still very lively when I released her and she should make lots of babies!
It was great to be out, but I will definitely not be doing many full day trips as my body just won't handle that grind.

WTG Chip! I know what you are talking about having to measure over and over. The big girl I caught in may was so fat we couldn't believe she was only 27 3/4 inches long, but tipped the scale at 8.1 pounds. Not sure I'd want to trade for a long skinny, but I'd sure love to have caught her......... Congrats!!!!

BTW what are the numbers on that spot.......

You know that if you ask, I will give YOU GUYS some detail, but I am not into giving everyone an exact location. There are lots of lookers around here, and when they join and ask me I will gladly help out! Next time I will make sure there is a pic without the background so I don't have to black it out. I was too worried about getting her back in the water in good shape.
