  • Bull Red.

Things are slow at work, so going fishing is slow. New managers around and a micro type person and has run off 5 people already and can't figure out the problem, lol... Anyway, I been trying to keep afloat till things level out.

A nice quick fix is fishing for reds at nigth. So I Made it to the ramp at 615pm last night. Headed out to my bait reef to catch a few mullet for the night. It was kind of nice though, the wind was blowin parallel to the reef and the mullet were running straight up the reef. Never had to exit the boat to catch my bait.

After about 3 dozen mullet it was off to the midbay reefs in West. Tide not moving and the moon already in the sky at a day before the half moon feeding time, my chances of a full stringer early were not in sight. I had hooked up with several Lady fish which were high flying fun at the time but really taking my bait quick. I also hooked a few undersized trout.

A really nice slick popped up along the reef just before sundown. I tried to throw my topwater shedog glow a few times but the dang seagulls were too peskie to even put up with them. Then I tried to reel in my live mullet along the reef. This red must have picked up my bait when I wanted to reel it in. It was hooked in the corner of the mouth with a #4 trebble.

This fish sat in place at first, then ran along the reef I was fishing, boiled the water a few times but I never got a good glimps of if because it was getting dark. Noseing down the whole time after that and holding in place a time or two, I thought for sure I had a stingray. But once I got it close to the boat it took off agin ripping drag, then I thought of a larg flounder. Finally I got a good look of the fish holding the rod in my left hand and spotting it with my right only to have that red take off running again!

Finally landed her in the boat to measure out at 33"! Nice red to put in the box and use my tag for the year. I caught one more undersized red and a few more lady fish but decieded to leave at 9 pm, kind of early for me but it is the middle of the week.

I did not get a picture of the fish but I made one side on the halfshell and the other side for the frier and gave it to my friend who has his last day tomorrow where I work at. When I did cut it up I found two hand sized piggy pearch in its belly not even fully decomposed and this fish hit a 4" mullet. Off the water at 9pm instead of the usual 10pm, I should have stayed all night becuase work is slow once again.

          Thanks for the report.
"Hey Hillary, regarding the Benghazi Attack on 9/11-we'll just blame it on that movie, not my total lack of security. By the way, what's so significant about 9/11 anyway-was that a date my buddy Bill Ayers of the Weather Underground blew up a government building?" asked Obama to Hillary. Great report, amazing how things level out when you are fishing, especially when things are a little stressed at work.
Timing has a lot to do with the outcome of a rain dance.
