  • Afternoon Drifts-10/23/11 Report

Launched with Uber at around 4ish to get some fishing in. We picked out a small area we were going to work and set up a drift. Water clarity was spotty with visibility around 6 inches and some places more than that. Our first drift, Uber was working a pumkinseed Ms. Trout Killer while I was working a rattle trap that originally had a black back. After about 10 casts, BAM. A rat red took off with my rattle trap. Let him go to get his mama. We then reset our drift. Uber had a hit, set the hook and I put my rod down for net duty. Turned out a mullet got too close to Uber's MTK and got hooked. Laughing about it, I went back to my rod and two jigs later, I felt a slight hit, some weight which required a sharp hookset. Fish ON! Pulled some drag and came up as a little over 19 inch flounder with fat sides. I almost though Uber lost this one when he netted since I couldn't see it. (That would have made 3 flounders lost)

We didn't get anymore hits after we reset again, so we went out to explore some marshes. We fished a point and Uber had a small flounder hit and preformed an early release. We continued for a while but with no success. We went back to our first spot and set up a different drift. I switched my hackberry hustler in morning glory. Had a hit and pulled up a small trout which spit the hook at the boat. There is my slam for the day. Uber then switched to a TK in morning glory and hooked onto a nice 24 in red. We reset and he ended up with a keeper trout. Now we have a boxed slam and both of us have a hooked slam. Not bad for a few hours on the water.

Nothing like exploring new spots did more driving, exploring and me getting hung up than fishing....morning glory Mrs. Trout Killers seems to be all they would hit in that particular spot minus the occasional rat L trap strike. I was switching baits like a madman trying to see what they would hit in that spot the bite was so finicky. Thanks for putting up the report next time will be a different story when we have some more time!!! Had fun ... Mr.Ninja's a pro at that rat l trap lmao.

I think u squeezed that speck in the pic too hard jhua lmao...
I set my hook like I am fishing for tuna even if I am fishing for trout. Call me tuna Joe!

I think we have similar styles of fishing.
