  • Beached Sailboat

I was helping FWE member Charlie move yesterday and driving east on the seawall is a decent sized Like new 30-40ft sailboat beached to the east of Pleasure Pier. Tide was out and the boat is sitting at a 90 degree angle... Must have its keel buried pretty deep.

Anyone know how it got there?

It was in the paper yesterday (GDN). He apparently got caught in the 40 mph gusts and tried to get some protection and didn't know that he pulled into and anchored in shallow water between the groin and pier and was being pummeled by waves. He called for aid, but decided to stay aboard until he realized how shallow he was and that the winds weren't laying down. Help arrived, but not much they could do and the captain decided to swim in to the beach and a lifegaurd or police swam in his dog. He is staying at a hotel and waiting. I don't understand how folks can think breakers are in deep water??? Yes, all the waves were breaking, but 100 yards from the shore is shallow, especially for a keeled boat.

Good luck to him and I hope his boat survives intact.
"Hey Hillary, regarding the Benghazi Attack on 9/11-we'll just blame it on that movie, not my total lack of security. By the way, what's so significant about 9/11 anyway-was that a date my buddy Bill Ayers of the Weather Underground blew up a government building?" asked Obama to Hillary. BEAUTIFY AMERICA, RUN OVER A LIBERAL, THEN BACK UP AND SEE IF HE'S DEAD.

He is in the pics today, and was in them yesterday too.

Beached isn't too bad of a place to be with the winds the way they are, beats being blown to Cuba. Hopefully he will have an easier time getting his boat back once the tide comes in. I'm surprised the Galveston crack heads haven't pulled off that radar yet.

I didnt get to see the pic but I can guarantee you 100 yards is pushing it... This thing was INSIDE the jetty. When I was driving back (around 6) the tide was all the way out and it was on dry sand.

          Is it still there?
