Big Trout

I understand this is the time for big trout. Has anyone caught any yet and if so would you like to share?

Still a little early. But I had one a few weeks ago that was 7 1/2 lbs that was released. I was going to post the pics but didn't like the background. Been seeing several in the 4 to 5lb range. Late December through April is prime time. Dpop had 2 when he fished with me a few weeks ago that were in the 6lb range.

How long does a cold front have to stick around for the cold weather patterns to start?

I did fine at Chocolate last weekend even though it was pretty warm. No trophys, but plenty of 22"ers. It's my understanding (no proof yet) that they should be out this weekend or after the next cold front. I don't think it takes a bitter cold or a very long cold spell to get them going. It should only get better this winter. We should have a little warmer and dryer one than last year which will hopefully give us all a nice shot at some big 'uns. Good luck!

Like Pimp said, it's a little early to see them in concentration. This front will get the pattern started, but don't expect real consistency for about a month. Think about the transition to shallower water, mud and or shell. Water temps below about 60-62 degrees need to occur to really get them stacked into the winter haunts. This is when they become more focussed on following the mullet, as many of the other animals that they eat. Break out the topwaters and corkies......

Yeah , I caught a 12 pounder recently but I was alone , released it and didn't take any pictures .

Thanks for the info. Steve and AP.... I'm hoping to land a PB this season bc I've been stuck on it for a long time ... I even wrote to Santa for a huge toad this year....

I've had quite a few 5#s and a couple of 6# over shell. I haven't had one over 6.5 yet this fall I don't think. I've caught most on super spook jrs and shedogs, but lately dark plastic has been the ticket for bigger trout especially when the bait goes down.

Big Chartreause Corky Devil, has gotten me a few big girls lately, I've been fishing by myself and my lips are sealed....Fishing a new winter hole I've been scouting for a couple of weeks...It's gonna be a mega trout hole when the water temps get right. Nice thing about it is.... no one can spot me when I'm in there...without a lot of trouble looking for me.PM me Steve_A lets hit E.matty soon.
