  • Best old work truck

    Hey guys need some help.

With the amount of driving I do, A full time SUV/truck would be out of the question for mpg/speed/ease of drive etc etc. What is a good work truck/SUV that is dependable, looks cool, can tow 3-4K lbs and cheap. 4x4 would be nice.

Not looking for anything over $9K unless it was worth it.

I love old Land Rovers but don't know the "solid years" with less problems
Old Isuzu Troopers are cool and seem to have a good reliability record but are hard to find.

    OPEN TO ALL RECOMMENDATIONS.

    Thanks

I'd go for a '92 Chevy pickup. Why? Because I still miss it after selling it 7 years ago. Dad gum that was a GREAT truck!

When you really shop around, I think you'll be surprised at how trucks and the vehicles you mentioned really don't differ that much on mileage. I've got a 2004 Chevy pickup with the small V-8 (4.8 liter I believe), and I get 22 mpg on the highway.

I remember when I was shopping around, I was pretty astonished at the mileage you could get out of a full size pickup compared to a smaller pickup or SUV.

Jeremy sells Acuras. Acura doesn't make anything tough.

I'm sure he deals with used cars too though. Hook 'im up FP!

Lots of good deals on 97-2003 F250s... I know diesels "run forever" but what about the 8cyl gasoline motors are 130k on Gas motors a lot on big trucks that are meant to run for years?

Which are the cheapest to maintain? Read a review saying you need to replace balljoints on 2002 HD every 30k miles, new brakes and rotors every 30K. I know its all how you drive, especially if its mostly highway.

                      Just lookin for some guidance

Guess I'm old fashioned, but my best was a '68 Ford 150 farm truck, although the Chevy was faster in the quarter mile. "Three in the tree," although I really wanted a different tranny ... I kept the ole shifter on the column anyway, after I learned trick shifting with a HD clutch.

Goodness that was broke down when I bought it for less than a grand. New leaf springs and a slight jack-up along with a HD rear end fixed a bunch of that, along with a cheapo 'Earl Scheib' paint job. Heads were over-bored and reworked with a new carb and fuel filter system. Nice tuned pipe-tube exhaust, no catalyst, glass packs. Pretty hot stuff, 'Ole Red.'

They don't make 'em like that anymore, a real working man's truck you could actually fix, which I did every other Sunday - including checking that bailing wire on the grill, LOL.

I know they are a little truck but i drove the crap out of a mazda b2500 before selling it to one of my roofers.I had that truck over 300,000 miles ,granted i had to put a couple timming belts and waterpumps on it. A mazda pick up is a ford ranger.

Yes I sell new Acura's but I should be able to find just about anything used. I work for Autonation so it should not be too hard.
