  • Matagorda tides

NOAA doesn't do a tide table for East Matagorda and I've never talked to anyone who could tell me about the tides . I found an article in Texas Fish and Game about fall fishing in East Matagorda Bay . In it , Capt. Bill Pustejosky says East Matagoeda tides occur one hour to one and a half hours earlier then Pass Cavallo. In West Bay the adjustment is 30 -45 minutes earlier . " It's best to get a 2 hour jump on Pass Cavallo's tide " , he said . I guess that means to have a 2 hour earlier adjustment on the Pass Cavallo tide .

Gee , I don't know . I'm not sure what you want to know.....You would look up the tide for Pass Cavallo and add about 2 hours and then look up the Freeport tide and compare the two.

From my experience with the tides in EMB, most of it is wind driven. The eastern end will get a some tide movement thru Mitchells Cut and the area around the Old Gulf Cut will have some tide movement. The rest of the bay gets very little.

No no no... I will look at my GPS and see if Pass Cavallo is loaded to show tides there. I am not familar with that Pass.. Just wanted to know if you knew what the time difference was. I wish they still had a tide station in Matagorda... Thanks for your help!

Steve has the correct answer, the wind is your friend.Much like Baffin. I will always look if I'm coming thru old gulf cut to see which way it moving.I'm looking for birds and bait activity when in East Matty and less concerned about feeding tables or tide movements.Go as much as you can and forget about all the magazine articles you've been reading thats how you'll get better patterns as well as developing your own fishing logs.

Rick is that for both trout and reds.Rick do you prefer the north shore or the shouth shore depending on the wind or which way the tide is going at the old gulf cut?

Chris, I like the North shoreline as long as the bait is there. Those big trout will not eat very well when everyone is running the south shoreline.I really don't care which way the wind is blowing and the reds will tolarate a little more traffic than the trouphy trout.I like a strong southeast 20-25 mph wind and i'll fish protected shell humps out in the middle on the north side of the bay.I don't much care about water clarity it not really a factor if the finfish are present.I once told Lurefisher to stick his head underwater and see if he could tell how hard the wind was blowing. The wind affects fishermen way more than fish.Corpus is the windyest city in America and those trout in baffin are FAT MF'ers, there eating in the wind and dirty water everyday.I have caught some Monster trout in the 8-10 lb range in water that looked like liquid mud that no sane trout chaser would fish.I usually could care less about water color or wind conditions....in the winter,...bait,bait,bait, is the ticket
