Our owners and one of our vendors got together and decided to take our President's Club (Top salespeople) to New Orleans for a few days of fun and relaxation.
We flew in on Sunday morning and got to the Hotel about 11:30am. We stayed at the Royal Sonesta on Bourbon Street. We checked in and then ran to a sports bar to watch the Cowboy game and harrass our Dallas guys for a while. Good to see the Cowboys go down again! They decided they had enough of football and the Houstone crew moved to another bar to watch the Texans game. They decided to join us when the Texans were down by 17 so they could give us some shite, but they were short lived......Go Texans! We hung out and complained about Kubiak's decision making for a while and then headed to dinner at Tujagues whick is the oldest restaurant in NO. It was ok, but not impressive. We finished and headed back to the Quarter to watch the late game and drink the night away. The majority of the crowd ended up back at Rick's while a few of us went bar hopping and ended up back at the hotel early. I was in bed at 12:30pm.
Got up early the next morning and headed to find some super glue to fix my sandals that had blown out the previous night. Walked about 6 blocks to Canal and found a CVS. On the way back ran into our owners and went for Breakfast at Mena's, a little hole in the wall place that was great. 2 of us then walked down to the river and hit the markets just looking around. Stopped at Cafe Du Monde for coffee and beignets. Ended up walking about 5 miles and sweating all the booze out.
The vendor had booked us a swamp tour for the afternoon, so after a few drinks we headed that way. Unfortunately the vendor didn't consult with any of us to see what we wanted to do and they planned the entire time there. The tour was just a slow boat ride through the bayou after an hour bus ride to get there. We saw a few gators and birds, but nothing we can't see here.
We got back and had a few more drinks before dinner at GW Fins. That was one of the best meals I have had in a long time. We ordered every appetizer, entree and dessert on the menu and passed most of it around. It was awesome.
Finished dinner at halftime of the Saints game and ran out to the bars to watch the end. Great game that the Saints should have lost, but glad they won so some partying would happen in the Quarter. We walked the street and bar hopped for a few hours and ended up in Pat Obrien's in the piano bar to end the night.
We were supposed to go on a Katrina tour that the vendor booked, but 2 of us decided that we had seen enough hurricane devastation and slept in until 10:30. We ate breakfast and then just chilled out until time to go to the airport. When the other guys got back they told us "You missed a great tour, we got to see the Post Office!". Glad we made the right call on that one.
I had not been to the Quarter in quite a few years and it has changed a lot. There are a lot more sexually oriented businesses than I remembered and it still smells like puke everywhere.
Sorry the pics are not very good. They are from my phone.
Here are some pics.
