  • Blockade Runners Labor Day Weekend Fri-Mon.

I'm still ridin' the rental Shoalwater for one more weekend thanks to Funk Shoal Brutha. I'll be heading out Friday after work. I've got a lot of cleaning up to do for Saturday. Late Saturday Tres, his wife Jen, and his daughter are comin out. I was holding off on inviting anyone because I'm afraid we'll run out of beds. It's lookin' like Friday is wide open if anyone wants to come out. Saturday night will be tight, as will Sunday. I'd say you're probably lookin' at sleepin' on a cot or on the floor Saturday or Sunday. You might get lucky though. I hate that, but soon we'll have a bunch more sleepin' spots.

If you wanna come out, just lemme know. We should be starting the painting process this weekend, so if you come, bring your ugly clothes. - Sandy

Looks like the extra couple I was expecting won't be making it. So the top bunk is open as are the 2 beds in the cave. I can take 3. There should be some good pickin' and grinnin' on the front porch.

What a gorgeous night out here! Only the slightest of breezes, but still I feel cool. No generator noise for me tonight.

Blake's Shoalwater did a good deed tonight. I pulled in a guy from the Bird Island area. Hilarious story. I think I've got to tell it in person though. There's no way y'all would believe the absent mindedmess. Ah, ok, I'll tell it.

I launched the boat around 9:15 tonight, taking plenty of time with everything. When you're running a fine borrowed boat like this, you don't want to be in a hurry. I got out of the old KOA and I was about half way to Titlum, just idling as I usually do at night. I looked to my right and I saw a blinking light. I fixed my gaze at it and it was intermittent. I finally made out the imperfect Morse code SOS signal. I hit the gas just enough to get on plane, using the Q-beam to make sure I was good. When I got close to the boat, it was Blue Wave and the fellow was alone. I pulled up to him and he says, "Man, thank God you came over here. I've been trying to hail people since sundown." So I asked what the problem was. He responds, "Aw, my battery died, so I've been running my trolling motor for over an hour and a half. It's just about dead now and I knew I couldn't make it in." I immediately made a mental connection, but I reckoned he couldn't be that drunk, so we tied some ropes together to get ready to tow. I was still aside him when I said, "Sir, do you mind me askin' a question?" He responded in the affirmative. So I said, "Well you're battery died from running your radio right?" He said, "Yep." So I asked the inevitable question, expecting an elaborate answer. "Sir, you said you've been running your trolling motor the last hour and a half, right?" Again he said yep. So I asked, "How come you didn't put your trolling motor battery on your outboard to get it started?"

Well, you ever see someone realize they just made the amazing discovery that they made the most boneheaded mistake they could imagine? He opened his mouth several times, blankly staring at me. But nothing was forthcoming. He finally took his hat off and said, "SonofaB&*^%$! I am a fu&^*& DUMB-^&*^*" I told him not to worry about it, there isn't a person out here who hasn't forgotten his plug or pulled a moron moment. He was by now profusely cussing himself. So I towed him in and all ended well. I told him about FWE, so Rick, if you make it here, we've all been there Bro. Just pay it forward if you ever see someone needing a hand. For the record y'all, he hadn't been drinkin'. If he does land here, don't give him too much trouble.

Time to clean out the Cave for the guests tomorrow. VJER and Dean are arriving in the AM. Tres, Jen, and Courtney in the PM, along with Funk Shoal Brutha and his buddy. We're full up for sleepin', but if any of y'all are brave enough to stomach the yahoos out here, come on by. Give me a call ahead of time and I'll have boiled crabs for ya. - Sandy

I'd sure like to make it out there Sandy but my "honey do" list this weekend is pretty long. Trying to get it taking care of so I can head back down to POC on Tuesday for the rest of the week. Ya'll have fun. Take pic's if Blake does anything funny.

Hey Sandy, it's 55 degrees here in Biddeford Maine, hope to get out soon. Man this is a beautiful school, right on the Atlantic Ocean. Rode out Earl last night , a beer can was knocked over that's about it.
