I was reading a forum about a program that is always advertised on 740AM called mycomputercareer.com and people were saying that for most certs, all you have to do is pass a test. Instead of paying money for the basic certs, they taught themselves through books.

The only thing I can say about that, is don't count on it too much, but it beats nothing. I say that because I don't know.

HA I think I will try and see what happens.

        seriously....

Considering the IT field is filled with a bunch of ego-maniac nerdos, I wasn't surprised to see people say saying they were so smart, they didn't need school.

HEY I do Linux from the command line! That does qualilfy me as a nerdo (from what I been told)!

The IT field is not the only field that has people that are full of their selves. This normally means they haven't screwed up real bad with no one to blame it on.

Design and/or solution of IT Infrastructure (aka data center hosting)/Network/ERP application (Oracle or SAP) are least likely to be outsourced.

General IT support such as office PC, servers, and network support will hard to be outsourced, but very competitive landscpe.

Server support is being outsourced to remote companies where I am to a company called ATOS.

Remote access terminal server and virtualization makes this stuff simple to outsource.

Although a lot of the technical jobs are being sent offshore, companies still need people on-site who can translate business needs into technical requirements, build use cases, test cases, manage deployment and change management, etc.

With your business background, I would focus on business analyst positions with larger companies. This will get you in the door and provide training opportunities to develop your technical skills.

                        Good luck.
