Mabus to hold Texas town hall meeting at TAMUG on Friday, Aug. 6
U.S. Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus is holding a series of town hall
meetings in Alabama, Florida, Louisiana, Texas and Mississippi. The
meetings are open to the public and media, and will provide residents an
opportunity to discuss long-term economic and environmental restoration
ideas with the Secretary.
Friday, 6 AUG, Texas
Secretary Mabus will hold a town hall meeting in Texas:
* At 1200 (noon local) in Galveston at the Ocean & Coastal Studies
Building (Auditorium), Mitchell Campus on Pelican Island Texas A&M
University at Galveston (TAMUG), 200 Seawolf Parkway Galveston, TX 77554
* Following the meeting, at approximately 1:30 pm, Secretary Mabus will
be available to speak with interested media.
President Obama charged Secretary Mabus with developing a long-term Gulf
Coast Restoration Plan. The plan will consider economic development,
community planning, restoration of the ecosystem and environment, public
health efforts and assistance to individuals and businesses impacted by
the spill in the Gulf.
This will be Secretary Mabus' fourth trip the Gulf Coast to listen to
stakeholders and assess the impacts the oil spill is having on the
region. On previous trips he has visited with residents, business
owners, and local, state, and federal officials in Baton Rouge, La.; New
Orleans, La.; Biloxi-Gulfport, Miss.; Jackson, Miss.; Mobile, Ala.;
Pensacola, Fla.; Bayou La Batre, Ala.; Orange Beach, Ala.; and Gulf
Shores, Ala.
