Another Etiquette Thread

Not trying to beat a dead horse, but I had an "issue" arise recently. I am a guide and when these incidents occur it just doesn't ruin my fishing, it can take money out of my pocket. I have also witnessed many of people "burning water" because they have a shallow running boat. I run a poling skiff and work very hard to get as shallow as possible as quietly as possible. Burning pretty much kills the water for you and every one else.

its weird .Iv'e always heard stealth was the key to catching fish.Now you got guys burning the shore.Ease up on the shore catch your fish and ease out.This is from a guy that aint posted a report in months.Maybe I need to burn a shoreline.

Personally I have not witnessed a guide doing this so I can not really comment on it. I can only comment on how I act when I am on the water. I know I don't own any of it, so I share it. I know that nervous fish can make for tough day of fishing so I try to be quiet. I know that seagrass in Galveston is a priveldge these days, not a right, so I take care of it.

or for that matter anybody that burns a shoreline.........years ago a guide showed me that burning a shoreline could help you find the fish.i wasn't saying that just guides burn the shoreline.....just won't to get that out in the open.

Last week I paddled across the bay about an 1.5hr. of straight padlling only to watch a boat burn up about 2 miles of shoreline. It was disheartening to say the least. I really don't see how you see fish at 6 am @ 30 mph anyhow. A few redfish did volunteer there services to lift my spirits reguardless. Same thing at snake island cove last Sunday, but that was Sunday, I guess to be expected.

If you think there may be some fish somewhere, there probably are at least enough to make a good wade, so just get out and fish it. Save some gas.

Good article. I doubt you'd see FWE members burning the shoreline and to see it would probably p'ss most of us off too. Most of us here have a deep respect for the bay and what it offers in return, including it's long terms health. It's not just about the fish.

Weekenders...but we have to share the water. Hopefully they will read the article too.
