Dang, always were an inflatable PFD around any of the passes. Besides currents, around SLP there are places where you can be standing on solid sand and take a step into the water 15 feet deep.

SLP is one of the deadliest bodies of water in the U.S. Plugger is right, get you some inflatable suspenders. From 1970-1997, true heaven on Earth existed on the banks of Bayou Cook. "Hey Dad, Thanks for buying the Camp."

X2 on what Sandy and Plugger said. I drove over the pass yesterday and saw a whole family (little kids as well) swimming close to the bridge. I wanted to stop on the bridge and give them a warning, but I was not sure if I should stop of the bridge.
Anyway, wade the south shoreline east of the toll booth and you should be OK. Remember fishing is for fun, no need to get crazy and end up hurting yourself.
